14 year old Audrey Derivaux moved up the all-time rankings in the girls 200 backstroke clocking a 2:09.61 in her win in Austin. Derivaux’s previous best was a 2:09.80 that she swam at last month’s Olympic Trials.
Her swim tonight allows her to pass Rye Ulett who swam a 2:09.70 in 2019. Derivaux just missed Missy Franklin‘s national age group (NAG) record as Franklin swam a 2:09.16 in 2009.
Also highlighting the night was Nate Germonprez, who just finished his freshman season with Texas, won the men’s 200 IM by over four seconds touching in a 1:58.11. That was faster than his previous best time of a 1:58.97 that he swam for 12th at last month’s US Olympic Trials. His time from tonight would have allowed Germonprez to advance to the final as it took a 1:58.44.
16 year old Madi Mintenko swam to another best time and a win in the 50 free, touching in a 25.75. Her previous best was a 26.03 from March. She notably dropped over a second last night in the 100 fly, breaking the minute for the first time with a 58.73. She is committed to Virginia for next fall. Also dipping under the 26-second mark in the 50 free tonight was Ella Mongenel who swam a 25.91, just off her best time of 25.83.
Marizel can Jaarsveld was the final winner on the women’s side tonight as she swam a 2:16.60 in the 200 IM. The 25 year old finished about half a second ahead of 17 year old Sofia Luper who touched in a 2:17.29. Luper dropped over four seconds off her previous best of a 2:21.47 from just last month.
Texas A&M commit Travis Gulledge snuck under his best time in the 50 free with a 22.84. His previous best was a 22.89 that he swam in a time trial at US Trials.
Mikhail Lyubavskiy won the 200 back in a 2:02.76 finishing just ahead of 16 year old Anthony Pineiro who swam a 2:02.97. Pinerio dropped almost two seconds on the day as his previous best was a 2:04.94.
