After swimming the fastest 13 year old time ever yesterday in the 200 butterfly, Audrey Derivaux swam the second fastest 400 IM by a US swimmer of all-time as she swam a 4:49.32 to win the ‘B’ final in Irvine.
All-Time Top US 13 year Old Girls LCM 400 IM
- Jenny Parmenter, 4:46.36 (1996)
- Audrey Derivaux, 4:49.32 (2023)
- Becca Mann, 4:50.17 (2012)
- Elizabeth Beisel, 4:50.31 (2008)
Derivaux dropped almost two seconds off of her previous best time of a 4:51.14 which she swam to finish 29th at US Nationals last month in Indianapolis.
Derivaux also now sits as the 24th fastest ever in the 13-14 age group. Her previous best sat her at #43 in the age group of all-time.
Last summer, Derivaux made one ‘B’ final and two ‘C’ finals at Summer Junior Nationals at only 12 years old. So far this year, she has made the ‘A’ final of the 200 fly and the ‘B’ tonight in the 400 IM. She also is entered in the 100 fly, 200 back, 100 back, and 200 IM later in the meet.
Derivaux notably is already faster than current World Record holder in the event Summer McIntosh was at the same age who trains with the Sarasota Sharks out of Florida but competes internationally for Canada. McIntosh McIntosh swam a 4:50.43 in January 2020 at age 13.
Swimming a full second faster than Elizabeth Beisel, who was a NAG phenom, in her best event at any age is very noteworthy! I love the 400 IM, so I’ll be looking out for Audrey in the future!
Congratulations to Audrey for an awesome swim. The article is confusing regarding her nationality though. It lists her as #2 All-time Top US 13 year old; then states ‘although not officially an “American” anymore’. So if not an American, then why on the list?
Or does that statement refer to Summer not being “American”? Summer is and has always been Canadian but making the comparison to another impressive swim by a young swimmer.
She was born and raised in this country, received all her training here and is no longer an American? If true, this makes me very angry!
There’s going to be a lot of age group comparisons to Summer’s times for when she was 13-14 but important to remember that she didn’t get to swim a focus meet during much of 2020-2021 due to COVID.
Summer swam slightly faster than that 4:50.43 as a 12-year old in April 2019 and who knows what she would have done at her own Junior Nationals or other bigger meets during the rest of her season if COVID hadn’t hit.
isn’t Kayla Han missing from this list? At 13, she hit a best of 4:44.63, with 5 other swims ranging from 4:46.0 to 4:49.9 before turning 14.
What is her nationality?
According to the article, not American
So last May she was American and no more in August? 🙄

Not sure if she will be back in time for Tri County Summer league championship this weekend but I will do some research to figure this out.
I’ve realized I wasn’t as clear with that paragraph as I originally thought. The original paragraph was referring to Summer McIntosh’s nationality. McIntosh is listed under the USA Swimming database in the top 100 age group but does not count towards the US rankings as she represents Canada internationally. The paragraph has been edited to reflect a clearer description.
thanks for the update. i was getting NJ soccer prodigy Giuseppe Rossi to Italy flashbacks
Thank you
Thank you 😊
