Augustana College will open a new swimming & diving facility in May 2021, naming it after Anne Greve Lund, a pioneer in women’s athletics at the school.
Lund was the first athletics director at Augustana, from 1924-34. “She assumed faculty status while still a student at the college and almost single-handedly pushed women’s athletics toward the modern era,” the school wrote in its release.
“This facility represents a true commitment to excellence,” Augustana head swim coach Dan Lloyd said at a press conference. “It will make an immediate impact on our program and campus, but more importantly it will continue to honor the lasting impact and legacy that Anne Greve Lund made here at Augustana College.
“Our swimming and diving program is more than just a team. We are a family and our family will be excited to call the Anne Greve Lund Natatorium home. We cannot wait to start training and competing in our new home at the start of the 2021 school year!”

The official announcement naming the facility came on October 11. The natatorium will be housed in the Peter J. Lindberg, M.D., Center for Health and Human Performance, with the project being part of a $18-million investment in health and human performance at the college.
Among the pool’s features include:
- a state-of-the art competition pool, 40 meters in length by 25 yards in width with an all deep training and competition course (minimum depth of 7ft) which goes to 13ft. in the diving area.
- 10 lanes lengthwise by 15 lanes widthwise
- 5 ft. wide moveable bulkhead for expanded training opportunities and a diving area with a 1-meter and 3-meter springboards over 13 ft. of water
- brand new Colorado timing system with a high-definition video board
- all new competition starting blocks
- team meeting room, offices, locker rooms
- balcony seating for 250 spectators
- The natatorium will also feature a Swim Performance Lab featuring a SwimEx pool system for training, in depth swimming stroke analysis, and sports physical therapy.

The facility will give the Augustana aquatics programs a new home for the first time since 1971 when they moved to Carver Center Pool. The men’s swimming program boasts eight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin titles since 1929-30, while the women have garnered five since becoming a varsity sport in 1976-77.
In 2020, the women placed fourth and the men third at the CCIW Championships.
