In the Wildcats’ last dual meet of the season, Northwestern Head Coach Jarod Schroeder’s squad claimed a victory 163-128 against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers in a competition that saw a new pool record in the 100 yard breaststroke.
Northwestern junior Uula Auren stole the show when he swam a 57.02 in the 100 breaststroke to chop off 0.57 seconds from his own pool record set the year before. Auren had a comfortable lead throughout and split the race 26.7-30.2 en route to setting the new standard.
On a day where the Wildcats swam primarily off events, the men from Evanston swept the relays and recorded top times in 12 of the 13 swimming events overall before exhibitions were accounted for. Top performances for the Wildcats came from Charlie Cole (4:35.05 500 free, (9:35.51 1000 free), Jordan Wilimovsky (1:43.07 200 free, 1:54.64 200 backstroke), Andrew Jovanovic (50.05 100 butterfly exhibition, 51.20 100 backstroke), Aaron Sears (2:10.43 200 breaststroke), Mark Ferguson (47.22 100 freestyle), Chase Stephens (21.07 50 freestyle), and Van Donkersgoed (1:56.94 200 IM exhibition).
The Panthers scored victories in both butterfly events as Ryan Finke took the 200 in a 1:54.83 to just edge out Donkersgoed from NU (1:55.34) while Ryan Lucchesi took the 100 fly in a 50.84. The third swimming victory came from Kenny Stelpflug as he took the 200 IM in a 1:56.95. Additionally, KJ Jeger took top honors on 1 meter diving, though Northwestern’s Andrew Cramer would take the 3 meter event.
Northwestern finishes its dual meet season 7-3-1 while the Panthers still have their Senior Night meet against Green Bay today, Saturday Feb. 1st.
