Aussie Press: Michael Scott to Look at Swimming Australia CEO Position

It has been reported for weeks that Michael Scott had left British Swimming to take a job in his native Australia after it was decided that he couldn’t do his job effectively as high performance director in the UK without living there.

Now, speculation is rampant in Australian media (including The Australian) that he has instead applied for the role of new chief executive of Swimming Australia. That speculation has been fueled by the fact that the CEO of Athletics Australia Dallas O’Brien said that Scott’s reason for turning down his organization’s offer was to look at a job with the swimming body instead.

The implications come after Scott, who had been widely known to have been in final negotiations with Athletics Australia (track & field), suddenly told them he could no longer take that position. With the Swimming Australia CEO position still empty after Kevin Neil resigned in November, and O’Brien’s comments, the writing is on the wall.

Scott’s previous role was alongside Dennis Pursley as the leading figure for British Swimming headed into the London Olympics.

If Scott is in fact the hire, his first huge decision will be participating in the hiring of a new High Performance Director: a new role that will support Leigh Nugent, the head coach.

That would be a very bad move.

Just when do these people ever have to account for failures?

No they just go from one public funded appointment – fail – & onto the next.

There is a mad merry go round going on . Some sort of Masonic ritual where being completely ineffective somehow is the new black .

Hey kids – this is where those sports management is heading. Get out your inner boring !
