Over the last year Swimming Australia has done a lot to change their image in the public eye. After a disastrous 6-10 month period, which followed a poor showing at the 2012 Olympics in London, Swimming Australia needed change their culture and redefine their brand.
Promising performances by athletes such as James Magnussen, Alicia Coutts, Cate Campbell, Christian Sprenger and Cameron McEvoy have helped, along with a complete overhaul of their leadership group.
Heading into Glasgow they plan to not only continue to recreate that public image through results, but they will also be sporting new Speedo gear. The new gear was unveiled yesterday by Speedo and Australian Swimming. The suits were modelled by Bronte Barratt, Melanie Schlanger, Brittany Elmslie and Cameron McEvoy.
Pictures of the suits can be found below.
In an interview with the Courier-Mail McEvoy talked about his expectations and potential for multiple medals at the Commonwealth Games, “I haven’t thought about it actually,” McEvoy told the Courier-Mail.
“It’s interesting but if I go in there with (six gold medals) on my mind, I could get too anxious or I could screw up my race plan.”
His potential for six gold include the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle along with the 4 x 100 freestyle and medley relay as well as the 4 x 200 freestyle relay. Currently McEvoy is ranked number one in the world in the 200 freestyle, number two in the 100 freestyle and 13th in the 50 freestyle, but 5th in the Commonwealth.
“I’m just going to do what I normally do and that’s go in there and try to do a personal best.’’
The Commonwealth Games begin on July 23rd.
