After six days of action in Kazan, the United States managed to stay on top of the 2015 World Championships overall medal count, although now they have company in the gold medal standings.
Team Australia earned an impressive two golds on the day, first with Bronte Campbell‘s impressive win in the women’s 100m freestyle, followed by backstroking ace Mitch Larkin‘s 200m race victory. The Aussies also swam away with a bronze in the men’s 800 freestyle relay at the end of the session.
Great Britain was the winner in that 800 freestyle relay, adding another gold to their haul and putting them in a three-way tie with American and Australia for most golds after day 6. The U.S. won a trifecta of silvers, with Micah Lawrence and Kevin Cordes each earning runner-up status in their respective 200m breaststroke events, followed by a second-place finish for the U.S. men’s 800 free relay.
Japan earned its second gold medal of the championships, both by women, with Kanako Watanabe‘s title-winning 200m breaststroke swim.
