Well, that headline is only kind of a bad pun. Australian swimmer and National Record holder Daniel Tranter is heading to the United States to join the North Baltimore Aquatic Club and head coach Bob Bowman, and in this case, horses and stables have had a heavy hand in the decision.
According to Bowman, the connection came about in an interesting way. Australian swim coach-turned-horse-trainer Brian Sutton has been working with Tranter, and since Sutton “is going to be spending more time with the horses” asked if Tranter could come to Baltimore to train.
Tranter’s announcement via Twitter below indicates that his plan is to stay in Baltimore until Rio.

Tranter, who is 22 years old, was on the Australian teams for the 2012 Olympics, 2013 World Championships, and 2014 Commonwealth Games, entrenching himself as a member of the Australian National Team. He was 13th in the 200 IM in semi-finals in London, and improved to 6th at Worlds in 2013 after dropping the 400 IM from his schedule. In 2014, he broke through with a gold medal in the 200 IM and a new Commonwealth Games Record in 1:57.66.
Since, that 400 IM has stayed off of his schedule, and focused on other 200 meter races, including most heavily the 200 fly.
Initially, the focus will be bringing Tranter back from injury.
“Dan is recovering from an injury so our primary focus will be helping him get back into some shape and then take it from there,” Bowman said of his newest charge.
Bowman and NBAC is the home of one of the greatest 200 IM’ers ever, Michael Phelps. Though it was not a huge focus in his return, Phelps did swim it to a silver medal at the 2014 Pan Pac Championships.

I actually agree with you.
For me, WRs+olympics golds+WR longevity = greatest ever.
But Bobo is inconsistent.
For swimmers A and B, he holds that fatest ever (with less accomplishments) = greatest ever,
but for swimmer C, he holds that geatest ever is not about fastest ever.
For example, he contends that Ledecky is the greatest ever distance female swimmer, although at this point Janet Evans has more accomplishments. So he thinks fastest ever = greatest ever
But then he switched and saying Phelps is the greatest ever 200 IMer despite Lochte being fastest ever.
It’s a double standard, I’ll say, although no frenchman can be accused of such a thing.. 🙂
Bobo is correct; Phelps is the greatest 200 IMer of all time. Based on number of events won, records broken and length of time holding the records. Braden and EFTW are incorrect.

Probably a good thing…Bob’s “stable” has been rather empty recently…time to move on from this guy…without Phelps…nothing there.
