Back and Free Specialist Sam Leatherwood Commits to Evansville

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

The University of Evansville received a commitment from back and free sprint specialist Sam Leatherwood beginning in the 2019-2020 season.

As a senior at Milford High school, Sam competed at the 2019 Division I Ohio Southwest District Meet. He placed 11th in the 100 back (52.66) and he tied for 16th in the 200 free (1:46.87). He swam the backstroke lead off (24.15) for his team’s 200-medley relay which placed 3rd with a time of 1:33.47.

Sam recently competed at the 2019 Ohio MAKO Senior Circuit, where he placed 3rd in the 100 back (51.97). If he achieves his top times as a freshman, Sam will be the team’s 3rd fastest 100 backstroker behind Credence Pattinson and Brandt Hudson and the 2nd fastest in the 50 back behind Pattinson. The team – who is searching for a coach – placed 4th at the 2019 Mid-American Championships.

Evansville is currently without a head coach after the school split with head coach Brent Noble after just 1 season.
