Back Injury Forces James Magnussen to Withdraw from Prudential Singapore Swim Stars

The current 100m Freestyle World Champion, James Magnussen (AUS) has withdrawn from this Friday’s Prudential Singapore Swim Stars due to a back injury.

Magnussen has been advised by his medical team to rest his back completely and to avoid air travel. Most recently, the Australian swimmer had to withdraw from the 50m Freestyle at the Pan Pacific Championships.

James Magnussen said “I am very disappointed to not be able to compete in the first Prudential Singapore Swim Stars meet. I have been looking forward to racing and meeting the people of Singapore all year and I know this event is going to be world class not only this year but into the future. I have already set myself the goal of being there next year ready to race the best swimmers in the world.”

The Prudential Singapore Swim Stars kicks off on 5 September at 7pm with the thrilling inaugural one-day swimming event involving 12 Olympic Champions and 21 World Champions at the OCBC Aquatic Centre.

The event will be broadcast ‘live’ on Eurosport (51 countries), TV Globo (Brazil), SuperSport TV (Africa) and also on Fox Australia (Australia), TV Asahi (Japan), StartHub TV (Singapore).
