For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jamie Gassman will join Whitworth University’s men’s team in the fall of 2020.

Gold’s Aquatic Club’s Jamie Gassman will continue his academic and athletic career at Whitworth University beginning in the fall of 2020.

Last March, Gassman joined his club team at the 2019 Northwest Region Age Group Championships, where he competed in 2 individual events and 4 relays. He swam the second leg of the 400 free relay, splitting a time of 51.38. Hunter Fosler swam the lead-off leg, Timothy Walsh swam the third leg, and Ethan Han anchored the relay. Gassman placed 10th in his first individual event of the meet. His 100 back time of 56.43 was only 1.32 seconds off his personal best time.

Gassman swam the backstroke leg of the 200 medley relay (27.35), followed by Soren Gordon, Han, and Walsh. The relay finished 12th. Finally, Gassman competed in the 200 backstroke. He went out in a 59.35 and came home in a 1:03.24, for a new personal best time of 2:02.59.

In February of 2020, Gassman swam at the PN February Division 5 Divisionals. He made it back to finals in the three events he competed in: 50 fly, 200 IM, 100 free. He took the top spot in prelims of the 50 fly (26.16) and remained first in finals. Between his prelims and finals swims, Gassman dropped a total of 0.79 seconds in the 50 to earn a new personal best time. He also swam the 100 free that day, placing 5th in prelims and dropping to 6th in finals (54.93). Finally, he earned the bronze medal in the 200 IM.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 back – 26.13
  • 100 back – 55.11
  • 200 back – 2:02.59
  • 50 free – 24.35
  • 50 fly – 25.96

Gassman will join the 2020 Northwest Conference champions in the fall. He will be the Pirates’ second-fastest 100 backstroker behind William Walters and their third-fastest in the 200 behind Walters and Finn McClone. Gassman’s top times would have placed him in the B-final in the both the 100 and 200 back at the 2020 conference meet.

Gassman will be a part of Whitworth’s class of 2024.
