After being taken away from the pool deck yesterday on a stretcher, Tennessee’s star sprinter Madeline Banic is back. She anchored the Volunteer 400 free relay to a season-best 3:13.84 in prelims this morning. The swim was fast enough to score them a place in the consols.
Banic split 48.73 to anchor the relay. You can see the team’s splits below:
- Erika Brown: 48.46
- Kira Toussaint: 48.51
- Meghan Small: 48.14
- Madeline Banic: 48.73 (3:13.84)
Last night, Banic deck-scratched out of the final of the 100 fly, after qualifying 15th in prelims with 52.10. Earlier in the day, there had been a swim-off for first alternate. The winner of the swim-off, Michigan freshman Vanessa Krause, got bumped up into the consolation final. Krause ended up 14th with 51.98.
Banic was also slated to swim the 100 free this morning, but her team declared a false start for her slot in the event.
