Earlier this week we reported how Chinese superstar and reigning 200m free Olympic gold medalist Sun Yang will officially not be competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. The 29-year-old has been handed a new ban by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) that will last for 4 years and 3 months and run through May of 2024, with the end date just prior to the Paris 2024 Games.
Get up to speed with the earlier story in full here.
Sun will be 32 years of age when Paris rolls around and the man has told state-run Chinese online news source The Paper that he intends on competing.
“Actually my body is in great physical condition,” Sun said. “Difficulties will only help me grow and make me stronger.” He also said, “I’ll definitely stick with it.”
In addition to acquiring just short of a dozen World Championships titles, Sun has amassed multiple Olympic medals, including 400m free and 1500m free gold, along with 200m free silver from the 2012 Olympic Games. There in London, he became China’s first-ever swimming male Olympic gold medalist.
Sun also took home the 200m free Olympic title paired with 400m free silver in Rio 5 years ago.
Everyone is so butthurt over Sun Yang and it doesn’t make sense. The circumstances of his destroyed sample were completely justified. He is another Lochte of the sport. We need him.
These athletes from communist countries ,such as China and Russia aren’t going to quit doping. Normal athletes would feel guilt. You can see there are no guilt in this guy. Cheating is acceptable as long as you don’t get caught. They will try other ways of doping to avoid detection.
Russia is not communist.
Apparently Coleman and Houlihan aren’t normal athletes either.

Age 32 is borderline. I’ll repeat what I posted with Lochte, that early 30s is still potentially relevant in elite level swimming but mid 30s is not. Spare me the outlier examples. Anyone scrambling for one or two deflective outliers has already whiffed the big picture. The more talented you are the greater opportunity into the early 30s. Sun will have to limit his program, like Hosszu has done. She is currently 32. Maybe Sun will prioritize the 800. It’s too early to tell how many men will make that race a priority. He’s already won gold at 200, 400 and 1500.
the 800 will become increasingly deeper in years to come given that in a few weeks, we will have an olympic champ in the event for the first time. just look at the progression of the 50 free since (1988?) it was added to the olympic program. it will be too long for sun regardless. the 200 free is finally progressing as we have 5 guys getting in range of sun’s best time, along with 2 promising juniors. not saying one of those 6 swimmers will beat sun in 2024, but the event is moving ahead of sun. 400 free will also be too long for sun to handle
His main chance would’ve been the 200 remaining stagnant but that’s not looking like the case.
No thanks. He’s not welcome.
Please tell me the choice of the photo you used for Sun was not deliberate, it matches so well with the article content.
Told ya, knew that last article wasn’t good enough news.
Why is this clown still talking? Just go away!
