2014 Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships
Barbados recently hosted the 2014 Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships (CISC) and Alexis Clark of Barbados had an outstanding performance to win the 5km race (Girls 14-17) in Carlisle Bay. Alexis touched the finish with a time of 1:07:46 just ahead of Syria David (Trinidad) at 1:07:47.
In other races that day, Christian Marsden (Trinidad), took gold in the Boys 14-17 5km swim while Zuleimarie Hornedo (Puerto Rico) and Miguel Portes (Dominican Republic) claimed victories in the Girls and Boys 18+ 5km events respectively.
The CISC, a biennial aquatics championships that dates back to 1976, features age-group competition and attracted teams from 20 Caribbean islands.
Barbados Open Water Festival
The next Open Water event on the calendar is the Barbados Open Water Festival scheduled for November 2nd 2014 in Carlisle Bay (1.5km & 5km races) and open to all swimmers from recreational to elite. Its an amazing day of water based activity with Kayak and Stand Up Paddling competitions after the Swims and of course, a beach Barbecue!
Our wonderful sponsors have provided a range of prizes including free stays at luxury hotels, airline tickets, dining vouchers at the islands finest restaurants, day cruises, electronics & more. Entries have been received from the US, England, Canada, Ireland, Costa Rica, Venezuela and Trinidad to date. Alex Meyer, 2010 World Champion (25k) and recent US National Champion (5K) will attend and host an open water clinic. Conveniently there is a Masters Pool Meet October 29-31, 2014 at the Barbados Aquatic Centre allowing the opportunity to visit Barbados and take part in both of these events!

Swim BarbadosSwimBarbadosVacations has been formed to host International swimming events in Barbados. In 2013 two Open Water Festivals were held (July & October) and they were well subscribed by swimmers from all across the globe. Conditions for open water swimming in Barbados are excellent. Additionally, there is a very active group of Masters Swimmers on the island and in 2014 a Masters Pool Meet (Oct 29-31) will be hosted in conjunction with Flying Fish Masters and the Barbados Amateur Swimming Association. The organizers are veterans of the local swim/water polo/triathlon fraternity. They have a passion for swimming and for growing the sport in Barbados.
There were two open water swim events hosted in 2013, the first took place on July 6th and the second on October 27, 2013. Two swims, a 1.5km swim and a 5 km swim plus SUP relay races, kayak races and water polo. The 2014 event will be hosted on November 2nd. Swimmers & triathletes of all skill levels, from recreational to elite are welcome! Swim at your own pace.
