How It Happened
Junior Marta Baumann set the pool record for five dives in the 1-meter event, and freshman Emma Lee won a pair of races as Rhode Island swept Sacred Heart and Assumption Saturday. The URI (4-0) defeated host Sacred Heart, 153-141, while scoring a 191-97 victory over Assumption.

Competing at the McCann Natatorium, Baumann won the 1-meter dive with a score of 188.85. Her score beat the previous facility mark of 186.90, set by Central Connecticut State’s Casey Sherman in 2016.

Rhode Island won eight of 16 events overall. Lee, a Ladera Branch, Calif. native, was victorious in both the 1,000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle events. She has won the 1000 in each of her first two career meets. On Saturday. She was nearly 10 seconds ahead of the field, winning the race in room to spare.

Standouts From the Pool

  • The relay team of Julia RennaJulia NevinsJenna Salem and Ellie Oswald kicked off the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Rhody won in a time of 1:52.68, holding off Sacred Heart by 0.13 seconds. The Rams also placed third and fifth in the event.
  • Junior Julia Renna competed in two events and won both. In addition to leading off the 200 medley relay, she won the 100-yard backstroke. Her time of 1:00.17 edged Sacred Heart’s Casey Barrett (1:00.68).
  • Rhode Island claimed three of the top four spots in the 50-yard freestyle. Sophomore Ellie Oswald won with a time of 25.12 seconds. Freshman Quinn Frost was second in 25.74 seconds and senior Michaela Degnan took fourth in 25.92 seconds.
  • It was a sweep of the first three spots for Rhody in the 200-yard backstroke. Freshman Kelsey McMenemy (2:09.13) out touched senior Michaela Degnan (2:09.49). Sophomore Wynter Sands was third with a time of 2:12.67.
  • Junior Aimee Garcia won the 200-yard breaststroke to cap off the winners for URI.

What’s Next
Rhode Island will visit Providence for a dual meet against the Friars on Wednesday, Nov. 10. The meet begins at 5 p.m.

MILFORD, Conn.– A triple event winner from junior Nicole Tingley led to the Sacred Heart University swimming and diving team splitting its meet with the University of Rhode Island and Assumption College on Saturday afternoon.

Of Note

  • Nicole Tingley captured first in three events (200 freestyle 2:12.37), (100 freestyle 55.05) and (100 butterfly 1:00.28).
  • First-year Rosemery Nieto took first in 100 breaststroke touching the wall with a time of 1:09.14. She also placed second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:31.69 to place her among the top five swimmers in SHU history in the event.
  • Sophomore Olivia McNicholas continued her dominance on the boards with a first-place finish in the 1-meter dive with a score of 224.18.
  • First-year Emma Chambers also brought home first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.68.

-The Lead: The Assumption University women’s swimming & diving team competed with Sacred Heart University and the University of Rhode Island in a dual meet at Sacred Heart on Saturday. The Greyhounds fell to SHU 211-82 and URI, 191-97.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The meet was highlighted by a first place finish from Erin Tague (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. / Palm Beach Gardens) in the 200-yard freestyle. She finished in a final time of 1:58.70. Tague also placed third in the 200-yard breakstroke in a time of 2:34.91.

-The Greyhounds also picked up a runner-up finish by Brianna Buckle (Garden Grove, Calif. / Mater Dei High School) in the 100-yard butterfly. She touched the wall in a time of 1:01.32.

MacKenzie Day (Stoneham, Mass. / Stoneham High) earned third place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.31

Nicole Magnuson (Braintree, Mass. / Briantree High) took third place in the 5-yard freestyle with a final time of 25.91.

Jenna Swist (Broad Brook, Conn. / East Windsor) earned Assumption another third place finish in the 100-yard freestlyle. She touched in a time of 56.24.

-The Greyhound’s 200-yard freestyle relay of Day, Buckle, Adelaide Ferrick (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) and Sophia Lumino (Peabody, Mass. / Bishop Fenwick) earned second place in a time of 1:43.95.
