After three seasons in South Bend, Bayley Stewart is graduating a year early from the University of Notre Dame and pursuing a master’s degree in kineseology at the University of Tennessee.
I am so honored and excited to announce my commitment to continue my education and swimming career at the University of Tennessee!! Starting this fall, I plan to pursue a master’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise physiology. I want to thank my amazing friends, coaches, and advisors at Notre Dame who have made it possible for me to graduate in 3 years! Thank you for pushing me to be better in the pool and in the classroom every day, I am so grateful for every moment of my time at Notre Dame. To my family, thank you for your unconditional support always, but especially throughout this process. Finally, to the coaching staff and team at Tennessee, thank you for welcoming me and allowing me to join your family, I am so excited to be a Lady Vol!! 🧡

Stewart trained and competed with the Notre Dame program for the 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. The last two seasons were affected by COVID-19, but the 2020-21 season does not count as a season of eligibility– with two years already used, she thus has two seasons of eligibility remaining with Tennessee.
Stewart was a top contributor for the Fighting Irish, swimming at the 2019 and 2021 NCAAs. The most recent NCAA Championships saw Stewart’s best performances in her life, as she set personal bests in the 100 and 200 back and scored at 14th in the 200, her best event. She swam to A-final appearances in the 200 back at the last two ACC Championships, while she was a B-finalist in the 100 back and 200 IM in 2019 and 2021.
Stewart comes to the Tennessee program at a great time for them, as she would’ve been their top 200 backstroker and #2 100 backstroker this past season. She would’ve made 2021 SEC Championships A-finals in both backstrokes, while she would’ve been just off of C-final scoring speed in the 200 IM.
Tennessee has been quite a transfer magnet the last few seasons. Recent transfers include 2020-21 roster members Kristen Stege (East Carolina), Claire Nguyen (Arizona State), Cassidy Bayer (Cal) and Kaitlyn Harty (Texas), while Emma Carlton and AJ Kutsch are starting up with the team for next season after leaving Texas A&M and Auburn, respectively. The Lady Vols are also bringing in a huge, and fast, class of 14 freshmen for the 2021-22 season.

Let’s gooooo!!! Second year in a row that Kredich and Huger have taken a perceived weakness in the roster and made it a strength. Distance free last year, and now backstroke. Carlton, Fuller, and Stewart give us a lot of options. And Harper, our A-backstroker last year, was just freshman!
