December 12, 2014, Federal Way, WA – Having already made his mark by breaking the 15-16 National Age Group record in the 50y freestyle yesterday, the mega-force that is Ryan Hoffer is far from backing off. In tonight’s finals session of the Winter Junior Championships, the 16-year-old from Scottsdale Aquatic Club lit it up with another NAG record, this time in the 100y butterfly. Hoffer’s phenomenal 46.42 time in tonight’s final blasted past the previous NAG mark of 46.99 held by Alexander Valente (Buenaventura Swim Club), while also surpassing the meet record previously held by Joseph Schooling (46.70) set in 2012.
Hoffer’s splits: 21.70, 24.72 (46.42)
Hoffer’s massive underwaters helped him surge past Michael Andrew and Michael Jensen, who finished in 47.38 and 47.45, respectively. His previous best time from 2014 was the 47.92 time he posted at the Champions Series Western Region meet held back in March of this year.
Next up for Hoffer is the 100y backstroke final (tonight) and the 100y freestyle prelims (tomorrow).
