Beisel, Prenot make points runs on Day 2 of Austin Arena Pro Swim Series

After scoring just a single point on the opening day of the Austin Pro Swim Series event, points leader Elizabeth Beisel erupted on day 2, putting up 8 points in a tough double to add to her lead.

Beisel, who earned 21.5 points and $4300 at the tour’s first stop in Minneapolis, won the 400 IM and took second in the 200 back on Friday night. That keeps her safely ahead of a charging Katie Ledecky, who got her third win of the weekend by pacing the 200 free, a race Beisel scratched after prelims.

Though Ledecky wants to remain eligible to swim in the NCAA – and therefore has stipulations on how much prize money she can actually accept – the freestyle star has earned $3,000 already in Austin, the most of any swimmer.

Also making a big day 2 run was Cal’s Josh Prenot, who put up 5 points on a 400 IM win and now sits second in overall points for the Austin meet. Though Prenot is also an amateur and couldn’t accept the series’ $10,000 point champion’s bonus or the 1-year car lease that goes along with it, he did have a major impact on the points battle today.

Prenot beat out Tyler Clary and Ryan Lochte to win that 200 IM, allowing Conor Dwyer to officially pass up Clary for the series points lead. Dwyer has earned 11 points and $2,200 so far in Austin.

The full point- and money-earners lists from the Austin meet are below. Austin is the second stop on the six-meet series.
