Belarusian Women Set New 400 Medley Relay National Record of 4:03.61 in Brest

During the second finals session of the 2021 Belarus Open in Brest, one national record went down along with two national junior records. During Thursday morning’s prelims session, Anastasia Kuleshova (1:02.41), Alina Zmushko (1:07.09), Anastasia Shkurdai (57.78), and Anastasia Koryakovskaya (56.33) combined to establish a new Belarusian 400 medley relay national record at 4:03.61. The former record was nearly six seconds slower than Thursday’s swim, a 4:09.08 from the 2021 Latvian Open

Into finals, Alesya Akinchits set two national junior records in one race. During her 800 free race, she split 4:23.74 at the 400-mark, which broke her own 2020 junior record of 4:24.49. She proceeded to finish with a new junior 800 free record time of 8:53.16, breaking nine minutes for the first time and taking down Vasilisa Zelenkevich‘s 2013 record of 9:00.64.

After splitting 57.8 in the medley relay, 18-year-old Shkurdai won the 50 fly in a 26.07, which puts her in the top-20 times in the world this season. Swimming in for second behind Shkurdai was Anastasia Kuleshova, touching in at 26.16.

Also winning a 50 distance was Ukraine’s Vladislav Bukhov in the free event, winning by 0.05s over Kazakhstan’s Alexander Varakin 22.32 to 22.37. Then, Nikita Tsmyg held off Ivan Adamchuk for the men’s 200 back win 1:59.41 to 1:59.62.

More event winners include Angelina Malaschenko in the women’s 200 breast (2:32.15) and Konstantin Kurochkin in the men’s 400 free (3:55.92).

Anastasia really stepped up here.

In the 50 free (not fly) Bukhov won in 22.32. In the third finals session Alina Zmushka won the 100 breastroke in 1.06.62 (new NR) whilst Grinev showed his consistency winning the 100 free in 48.04.
