After taking time away from competition to address a shoulder injury Mireia Belmonte returned to action today at the Spanish Short Course Championships winning the women’s 1500 freestyle in a time of 15:46.64. This is the same meet where she broke the world record posting a 15:19.74 in 2014.

Very happy with the overall improvement of the spanish swimming. We were struggling for some years but now there are some very talented and young swimmers. Also very glad to see the great Mireia back in the pool posting good times( although not good enough for her). She is our best chance to win a medal in Rio.

If Mireia is healthy and back at 100%, she is the 200 fly gold medal favorite in my opinion.
She deserves an olympic gold medal.
