Belmonte Set to Race Six Events at the Spanish Championships

Spanish star Mirea Belmonte Garcia will be racing six events at the upcoming Spanish National Championships which will be held in Malaga from March 28th-31st.

Belmonte will compete in the 400, 800 and 1500 freestyle, the 200 and 400 IM and the 200 butterfly. She will be the clear favourite in all six events but will have some competition from some of her fellow Spaniards.

She will face Melanie Costa and Beatriz Gomez along with Italian Alice Mizzau in the 400 freestyle. The 800 freestyle will include Gomez and Maria Vilas Vidal. She will face Gomez and Vidal once again in the 400 IM and will be pushed by Judith Ignacio and American Katherine Mills in the 200 butterfly.

The Belarusians will have a presence at the competition as well. Aliaksandra Herasimenia will be shooting for victories in the 50 freestyle, backstroke and butterfly as well as the 100 freestyle.

Herasimenia will not have an easy time in the 50 backstroke as she will be challenged by Duane da Rocha and Mercedes Peris Minguet. She will also be up against stiff competition in the 100 freestyle facing Mizzau.

da Rocha and Peris will face off again in the 100 backstroke while da Rocha will battle Costa for the 200 backstroke crown.

On the men’s side the sprint events should be entertaining Italian Marco Orsi will battle Russian Andrey Grechin and Konrad Czerniak of Poland in the 50 freestyle. In the 100 freestyle Orsi, Grechin and Czerniak will also face off against Italian Luca Dotto and Yauhen Tsurkin of Belarus.
