The organizers of the 2016 Euro Meet in Luxembourg have revealed a roster of Spanish athletes who will be competing at the meet, which will take place January 29-31.
The biggest name on the list is Mireia Belmonte, who is widely regarded as the best Spanish swimmer in history, the only Spanish swimmer to win two medals in one Olympics (2012: silver 200 fly, silver 800 free). After a host of killer performances a year ago (including world records in the short course 200 fly and 400 IM in December 2014), Belmonte has been laying low for a large portion of the year with a shoulder injury. The Euro meet will mark her return to competition leading into Rio.
The full released Spanish roster is listed below:
Women: Mireia Belmonte, Melani Costa, Duane da Rocha, Judith Ignacio, Merche Peris, Jessica Vall, África Zamorano, Beatriz Gómez, María Vilas, Catalina Corro, and Jimena Pérez.
Men: Miguel Durán, Alejandro García, Marc Sánchez, Juan M. Rando, Víctor Martín, and Joan Ll. Pons.
Other swimmers who have confirmed their plans to attend the meet include Lazslo Cseh of Hungary, Velimir Stjepanovic of Serbia, Marco Koch of Germany, Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, and Great Britain’s Hannah Miley.
