In the last year Mireia Belmonte has accomplish some pretty impressive feats. At the World Short Course Championships in Dubai Mireia Belmonte won her country’s only medals, four gold, a total that put Spain fifth in the medal standings.

She also broke the 200 butterfly and 400 IM world short course records at the same meet and nine days later set a new world record in the 1500 freestyle at the Spanish National Championships.

She also won 200 butterfly and 1500 freestyle at the European Championships in Berlin along with collecting silver in both the 800 freestyle and 400 IM as well as a bronze in the 400 freestyle.

Now Belmonte’s home city of Badalona is making her its ‘Adopted Daughter’. She will be awarded with this honour at a ceremony on February 2 at the Zorrilla Theatre. Before that date there is an exhibit consisting of many of her medals and awards at the town hall.

Along with this honour the city will be constructing a new 50-meter pool which will be named after the swimming star. The Mireia Belmonte Pool is scheduled to be completed in the next year.
