Ben Johnston Verbally Commits to Towson Tigers, Adding IM Prowess to the Mix

Ben Johnston, who swims under Coach Mike Gobrecht at both West Shore YMCA and Cumberland Valley High School, has made a verbal commitment to Towson University.

“I chose Towson because of their track record of excellence both in and out of the pool.  The team made me feel welcome and I liked the fact that they knew when work needed to be put in.”

Johnston swam the 200 IM at the 2014 Pennsylvania High School AAA State Championships and was a member of Cumberland Valley’s top-eight-scoring 200 free relay. His top times over the last season have been:

200y IM: 1:54.86               200m IM: 2:12.31
400y IM: 4:02.56               400m IM: 4:47.76
200y free: 1:43.41            200m free: 2:01.79

Over the last year, Johnston competed at both YMCA National Championships. He ended the short course meet with best times in the 100/200 free, 100 back, and 200/400 IM. Similarly, he came away from long course nationals with new times in 50/100 free, 200 back, and 200 IM, having just achieved new times two weeks earlier in the 200/400 free, 200 fly, and 400 IM.

Johnston is part of a stellar Towson Tigers recruiting class that also includes the verbally-committed:
