The 2019 Western Australia State Open & Age Short Course Championships wrapped tonight with Ben Roberts taking his 3rd individual gold. After having taken the top prize already here in Mt. Claremont in the men’s 1500m and 400m freestyle events, the 29-year-old Breakers swimmer clocked a time of 7:53.47 to take the 800m free event.

Heading into this 3-day meet, Roberts’ career-fastest 800m free time short course was the 7:57.26 he produced at the 2018 edition of these State Championships. But the man had designs on lowering his PB, which he accomplished by almost 4 seconds, with his win on day 3.

22-year-old Talara-Jade Dixon of St. Hilda’s got the wall first across 3 individual events today, first topping the women’s 50m breast field in a time of 31.67. That outing not only represented the only sub-32 second time of the field, but it checked in as the 3rd quickest time of Dixon’s career.

Dixon also landed atop the podium in the women’s 200m IM in 2:19.59, as well as in the 200m breast, where she notched the 3rd fastest time of her career in 2:28.41.

Additional Winners:

  • Grace Hull took the women’s 800m free in a time of 8:48.16, while Nic Brown got it done in the men’s 100m fly with a mark of 53.45.
  • Perth City’s Kalani Ireland continued his winning streak at this meet by taking the men’s 18-19 100m fly race, clocking 52.08 to win gold by almost 5 seconds.
  • Iona Anderson beat the women’s 50m back field in 29.69.
  • Korea’s Song Im Gyu won the men’s 50m breast and 50m back events, registering winning times of 27.93 and 24.25, respectively. His countryman Jun Gi Yeong took the men’s 200m free in 1:49.00, while Lee Sang Hoon earned men’s 200m breast gold in 2:08.99.
