Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Sprinter Lily Neumann has announced her verbal commitment to Yale University, beginning in the fall of 2024.
Neumann swims year-round with Los Angeles Swim Club, and is currently attending Harvard Westlake High School in North Hollywood, California. She is set to graduate in the spring of 2024.
“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Yale University! I’m so grateful for the opportunity t o continue my swimming and studying at such an amazing school! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for their support during this process. Go Bulldogs!”
Neumann was featured in the sprint category of SwimSwam’s “Best of the Rest” section in the “Way Too Early Recruit Ranks” for the high school class of 2024. Neumann swims the 50 free up to the 200 free, but she has also shown some speed in the 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM
Top Times SCY:
- 50 free – 23.14
- 100 free – 49.77
- 200 free – 1:47.60
- 100 back – 56.33
- 100 fly – 57.88
- 200 IM – 2:05.99
Neumann most recently competed at Speedo Summer Juniors in August, where she swam the 50 (26.82), 100 (58.02), and 200 free (2:07.94). Her highest finish out of those three events was 61st in the 100 free. Prior to that meet, she also swam at the Santa Clara Futures meet, where she set a personal best in the 200 free by over 2 seconds, stopping the clock at 2:04.84.
At the 2022 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Championships, Neumann advanced to finals individually in the 100 and 200 free, while also contributing to two top 8 relays. She placed 3rd in the 100 free (50.07) and 8th in the 200 free (1:50.98), with both being just off her best times.
At the 2022 Ivy League Championships, Yale finished 2nd out of 8 teams, outscoring 3rd place Penn by only 2 points. At last year’s meet, it took a 50.82 in the 100 free to advance to the B-final and a 1:51.63 in the 200 free. Yale’s sprint group was led last year by Iszac Henig, who was a 21.93 in the 50 free, 47.32 in the 100, and 1:44.65 in the 200. Henig was followed by Ophelia Pilkinton (23.05/49.56) and Lindsey Wagner (23.12/49.85). Marlise Moesch was the team’s second-fastest 200 freestyler, coming in at 1:48.09. None of these athletes will be on campus when Neumann arrives.
Caroline McCurdy leads the way for the sprinters in Yale’s current freshmen class, holding Ivy scoring times of 1:48.54 and 49.72. Phoebe Yeh also swims similar events to Neumann, with Yeh coming in at 23.38 and 51.12 in the 50 and 100 free, respectively.
In the Bulldog’s class of 2027, Maryland native Nina Allen (22.81/50.96) and New York native Sara Plunkett (23.39/51.22) come in with Ivy-ready best times. Neumann should be a valuable addition to Yale’s sprint group because they are in need of more sub-1:50 200 freestylers. Many of their current and incoming athletes specialize more in the 50 and 100.
Neumann is joined by Pennsylvania native Devyn Sargent and California native Eunice Lee in Yale’s class of 2028. Sargent is a backstroke specialist (54.79/1:58.95), while Lee swims IM (2:01.84/4:19.02) and breast (1:04.38/2:19.12). Both hold best times that are projected to score at the Ivy League Championships.
