Bidding opens for potential hosts of 2021 World University Games

FISU (the International University Sports Federation) has opened the bidding for nations wishing to host the World University Games in 2021.

The World University Games, also known as the Universiades or World Student Games, bring together university athletes from across the world to represent their home countries. Both the Summer and Winter World University Games in 2021 are up for bid. Swimming is part of the summer games.

Nations interested in hosting either competition can now request the bidding forms from FISU. They have until next March to submit their bid documents and bidding fees. The next major step will happen sometime after September 30th of next year, when FISU will send Evaluation Committees to inspect all host candidates, and bidding committees will give presentations to the Executive Committee.

The last World University Games were in Kazan, Russia, at the swimming facility that will host next summer’s World Championships. The Games happen every two years, and the future host cities already selected are Gwangju, South Korea (2015), Taipei, China (2017) and Brasilia, Brazil (2019).

You can find more information on the FISU website here.
