With the 1650s taking place in the middle of the day, the final morning session of Big Al Open at Princeton University’s DeNunzio Pool has concluded.
Yale freshman Michelle Chintanaphol was the top qualifier in the 200 back with 1:59.31, coming in ahead of the Princeton duo of Shirley Wang (1:59.96) and Sada Stewart (2:01.54). Brown freshman Emma Wyke (2:02.74) and Villanova freshman Megan Conrad (2:03.26) both dropped five from their seed times to make the A final in sixth and seventh, respectively. Rider’s Carlee Oswald dropped four (2:04.90) and will be in the B final. Dartmouth’s highest qualifier was Valerie Orellana (2:05.76) at fifteenth.
Dartmouth’s James Verhagen (1:47.43) and Aaron Athanas (1:48.35) qualified 1-2 in the men’s 200 back. They were followed by three in a row: Andrew Helber of Princeton (1:50.71), Nick Johnston of Brown (1:50.88), and Kevin Quinn of Columbia (1:50.94). Rider’s Jeffrey Prichard (1:53.95) and Villanova’s Kyle Grant (1:56.44) both made the C final.
In the 100 free, Lisa Boyce of Princeton led the field with the top qualifying time of 49.78. Kate Dillione of Brown (50.11) was second. Dartmouth’s Charlotte Kamai (50.64) qualified fourth, just ahead of Yale’s Kina Zhou (50.68). Villanova’s Mary Snyder (52.37) will be in tonight’s C final.
Brown’s Jeffrey Strausser (43.84) gets the middle lane in tonight’s 100 free final, qualifying ahead of Daniel Whitcomb of Dartmouth (44.79) and Jeremy Wong of Princeton (44.82). Villanova’s Jason Moyer (46.41) and two freshmen from Rider, Ian Flynn (46.73) and William Molloy (46.93), will all compete in the B final. Columbia’s top qualifier was Codi Saunders (46.99) at sixteenth.
Yale loaded up the 200 breast with top qualifier Emma Smith 2:17.94 and three of her Eli teammates making the A final. Freshmen Olivia Chan of Princeton (2:20.03), Katie Roach of Brown (2:20.07), and Heather Laedtke of Dartmouth (2:22.31) qualified third, fourth, and seventh. Rider, led by Heather Good (2:25.03) placed four in tonight’s final. Villanova’s Katie Koch (2:29.69) dropped nearly five to qualify seventeenth, barely missing the B final.
Recalling last night’s 100 final, the 200 breast will feature top qualifiers Nejc Zupan of Dartmouth (2:02.21) and Princeton’s Jack Pohlmann (2:02.54). Connor Lohman of Brown (2:03.48) and Zachary Mabin of Rider (2:04.56) will also contest tonight’s A final. Columbia’s top prelims swim came from seventeenth-place Eric Traub (2:09.62), while Villanova’s fastest was Tony Sipala (2:10.39) at twentieth.
Freshmen Isla Hutchinson-Maddox (1:59.11) and Sydney Hirschi (2:00.06) of Yale led the prelims in the women’s 200 fly. Princeton’s Nikki Larson (2:00.15) qualified third, just ahead of teammate Morgan Karetnick (2:00.79). Brown’s Gina Matsumoto (2:00.91) and Dartmouth’s Danielle Kerr (2:03.28) also made the A final. Villanova freshman Erin Merkle (2:06.45) was thirteenth and Rider’s Kaitlyn O’Connor (2:11.16) was twenty-fourth.
In the men’s 200 fly Brown’s Tommy Glenn just missed breaking the DeNunzio pool record by .16 with his 1:42.94. Princeton’s Teo D’Alessandro (1:46.91) and Columbia’s Kevin Quinn (1:48.60) qualified second and third, respectively. Dartmouth’s David Harmon (1:50.38) was sixth. Shane Tubb of Rider (1:52.72) finished tenth; Villanova’s Ben Smith (1:55.70) was twentieth.
