Binghamton Women, Bison Men Come Out On Top At Bucknell Fall Invite

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Elijah Lanfear was a triple winner while senior Eric Kroon and freshman Haley Nowak each won two individual events, highlighting the Binghamton swimming & diving teams’ performances at the Bucknell Fall Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Kinney Natatorium. The Bearcat women won the three-team meet while the men finished second.

Lanfear captured the men’s 100 back (49.59), 200 free (1:40.89) and 50 free (20.57). He also swam on the first-place 200 free relay team which included seniors Sandon Karinsky and Henry Shemet as well as sophomore Liam Preston and clocked a winning time of 1:22.10.

Kroon swept the men’s 100 breast (56.26) and 200 breast (2:06.34) while Nowak took top honors in the women’s 100 fly (57.13) and 200 fly (2:05.52).

The men’s team’s other individual winner was Shemet, who tied for first in the 100 free (45.58).

There were six other Binghamton individual winners on the women’s side, including sophomore Maria Pignatelli in the 100 breast (1:04.38), senior Maddie Hoover in the 100 free (52.91) and fellow senior Molly Greeley in the 50 free (24.03). The three of them, along with freshman Ava Olsian, were also first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:36.18.

Junior Lauren Kuzma won the women’s 200 breast (2:20.79), freshman Juliette Phillips was first in the 200 IM (2:07.84) and sophomore Olivia Philbrick captured the 100 back (56.73).

“I thought we built on our momentum from the Green-White Meet two weeks ago.” head coach Jerry Cummiskey said. “We swam well and competed well today and learned a lot., especially since we had a lot of swimmers race in different events than they normally do.”

Up next for Binghamton is a Friday afternoon dual meet at Holy Cross, starting at 5 p.m. The following day, the Bearcats head to Bryant for an 11 a.m. meet.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men’s swimming & diving team went up against Binghamton and Seton Hall in the Fall Invite at Kinney Natatorium Saturday afternoon. The Bison won four events, grabbed seven runner-up finishes, and the divers had a field day with three program top-10 scores.

Final Results

Rookie Riley Twiss shined with two wins, taking first in the 200 butterfly and in the 400 IM. His 1:51.21 in the 200 fly was just off the school’s 10th-best time of 1:50.99. Twiss was joined by Braden Beagle as Bucknell’s other individual event winner, as the sophomore touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke.

Bucknell’s 200 medley relay team was a winner, as Chris FabianNoah BasistaJohn Gehrig and Finn Russell finished nearly two seconds faster than second-place Binghamton. Fabian, Gehrig and Russell were also part of Bucknell’s runner-up 200 freestyle relay team along with Drew Greene.

On the boards, sophomore Jack Krug took third in the 1-meter with a score of 283.70, which ranks fifth in school history. He also took fourth in the 3-meter with a 290.30, which ranks eighth. Fellow diver and first-year Bison Connor Thurston also etched his named into the Bucknell record book, scoring 300.55 in the 3-meter to finish second at the meet and fourth all-time for the Bison.

Gehrig, the reigning Patriot League Swimmer of the Week, finished second in the 200 freestyle and third in both the 100 and 500 free. Meanwhile, Chris Kopac picked up a pair of runner-up finishes in the 400 IM and 50 freestyle. Another standout was sophomore Matt Raudabaugh, who placed second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 breaststroke.

Russell, along with his relay efforts, added a strong early-season 50 freestyle time of 21.14 to place fourth.

Bucknell, which jumped out to a 2-0 start to the season in dual meets last weekend, is back in action in two weeks when it heads to Annapolis, Md. to take on Navy, American and Lafayette in a quad meet on Saturday, Nov. 4.
