Anders Nielsen
Anders Nielson is a Denmark Olympian, currently competing for the University of Michigan. Born Apr. 11, 1991 Nielson is from Farum, Denmark, where he developed his passion for swimming. Although he is a freestyle specialist, Nielson can swim any distance – he’s a seven-time NCAA All-American, and three-time Honorable Mention NCAA All-American, ranging from the 100 to the 1,650 freestyle. He came at the January semester mark his freshman year, just after competing on the 800m freestyle relay in the 2012 London Olympics. Nielsen has been a big presence on Michigan’s relays – he’s competed on at least one relay each of his years at Michigan. In just his one-half of a semester, Nielsen earned Freshman of the Week.

Michigan
2012-2013
As a freshman, Nielsen joined the Michigan squad in January. He made an immediate impact at the NCAA Championships, finishing ninth in both the 500 and 1,650 freestyle, and 21st in the 200 freestyle. At the Big Ten Championships he finished in the top eight in every one of his events.

2013-2014
Nielsen was a two-time Big Ten Champion his sophomore year in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays. He cracked into the top eight at the NCAA Championships for the first time as an individual – picking up an eight-place finish in the 500 freestyle. He also finished 13th in the 1,650 freestyle, and 18th in the 200 freestyle. He also had three top-10 finishes at the AT&T Winter Nationals.

2014-2015
Nielsen is currently in his junior year as a Michigan Wolverine. He earned more All-America honors his junior year – he was the national runner-up in the 200 freestyle, and he also placed fourth in the 500 and 18th in the mile.

International Competition
Nielsen was a 2012 Olympian for the country of Denmark, and he competed on the 800m freestyle relay. His junior year he skipped the AT&T Winter Nationals for the 2014 European Swimming Championships. After winning both the 200m and 400m freestyle at the 2012 Denmark National Championships, he swam at the 2012 FINA Short Course World Championships.
