Ashleigh Shanley
Ashleigh was born in Chicago, Il as a Christmas surprise to her two older sisters. She then followed in her sisters’ footsteps swimming for the Anderson Barracudas in Cincinnati, OH where she lived until she was ten. When her family moved to Ann Arbor, MI she began swimming for Ann Arbor Swim Club until the merger of Ann Arbor teams and the creation of Club Wolverine. She then temporarily switched to Saline Swim team, before returning back to Club Wolverine. Although she followed her sisters’ footsteps to begin swimming, she decided to follow a different path than them by attending the new Ann Arbor high school, Skyline High School. She swam there all four years, where she was a state qualifier all four years, 4 time all conference her senior year, and three time state champion in the 100 breast her junior year and the 100 breast and 200 IM her senior year. Ashleigh is now swimming at Duke University where she is training breaststroke and IM. During practice she can be found either requesting to have YMCMB or Lil Wayne played, or talking about college football and basketball.
Club
During her high school career, Ashleigh swam for both Saline Swim Team and Club Wolverine. She attended multiple Central Zone Speedo Sectionals under her coach Laura Outlaw at Saline Swim Team, and attended Speedo’s NCSA Summer Nationals with Kelton Graham and Club Wolverine in 2013.
College
2013-2014
During her freshman year at Duke, Ashleigh posted a lifetime best in her 200 breaststroke at the team’s midseason Nike Cup Invitational. Her season times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke place her as the sixth fastest swimmer in Duke’s history for those events. She also competed in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 200 IM at the 2014 ACC Championship meet.
Personal
Ashleigh is receiving her degree in Psychology, while receiving a certificate in Markets and Management, along with one in Policy Journalism and Media Studies. She aspires to have a career in sports journalism and broadcasting, with the goal of working for ESPN one day.
