Connor Hoppe

Connor Hoppe
Born Aug. 28, 1995 to parents, Rick and Nancy, Connor Hoppe is a junior at the University of California, Berkeley. Hoppe is 6’6″ and well over 200 pounds – earlier in the season during his commitment we described him as a breaststroke “behemoth.” With an impressive 100 breaststroke, Hoppe also displayed his athleticism when he played for the Golden Valley High School water polo team. Hoppe took the world of swimming’s attention when he was ruled ineligible to compete in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championships; however Hoppe and his brother appealed to the section and won their case, and he went on to break the National Public School Record in the 100 breaststroke. Hoppe’s sister, Charis, is also a swimmer at UC Santa Barbara, and is studying Biology, which he also wants to study. With such an athletic family, Cal Coach Dave Durden believes he’d flourish quickly at Cal.

Hoppe made an immediate impact for the Bears in his freshman year, placing fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke at the Pac-12 Championships before heading to his first NCAA meet. 2015-2016

With a years collegiate experience under his belt, Hoppe had an impressive sophomore season. At the Pac-12 Championships he claimed the gold in the 100 yard breaststroke posting the fastest time on the team for the season. He also won a conference title as a member of the 400 yard medley relay.

At the NCAA Championships, Hoppe made significant improvements for the previous year, especially in the longer breaststroke event. He finished third in the 200 yard breaststroke ‘B’ final and 11th overall. He also picked up points for the bears in the 100 yard breaststroke he finished fourth in the ‘B’ final, 12th overall. In the 200 yard medley relay Hoppe was a member of the silver medal winning Cal team.

2016-2017

At the NCAA Championships his junior year, Hoppe helped Cal to a silver and bronze medal in the medley relays. He also made his first NCAA Championship final in the 100 yard breaststroke. He finished 4th in 51.41.

In the 200 yard breaststroke, Hoppe was disqualified.

International Competition
Hoppe is the National Public-School record holder in the 100 breaststroke, nearly breaking the 53-second barrier. In addition to the National record, Hoppe obviously holds the CIF Sac-Juaquin Section record in the 100 breaststroke.

At the 2013 Junior National Championships Hoppe finished eighth in the 100 breaststroke.
