Haley Sims
Haley Sims is a Stanford Cardinal originally from Downers Grove, Ill. Currently in her senior year at Stanford, Sims is studying Civil Engineering. She’s been a member of the U.S. National Junior Team and U.S. National Youth Team that competed internationally. After graduating from Downers Grove North High School, Sims chose to swim for Stanford – the same institution that her father swam for.She’s made the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team on numerous occasions, a strength she’s showed in high school. At Downers Grover North, she maintained a 4.6 GPA, volunteered within her community and gave swim lessons in her home’s backyard pool. She comes from an athletic family – Sims’ father, David Sims, was a member of Skip Kenney’s original recruiting class at Stanford that was the start of the men’s team, and he was a swimmer on the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team that boycotted the Olympics. Sims’ mother also was a member of the Canadian National Volleyball team playing for Southern Illinois. Sims’ siblings are also talented swimmers – her brother, Burke, is also at Stanford, and her younger twin sisters, Gabby and Maddy, swim at Harvard and Northwestern. Sims was apart of Illinois’ Express Swim Team, where she was the 2010 Illinois Swimmer of the Year.

Stanford University
2011-2012
As a freshman Sims had her highest dual meet finish in the 100 butterfly against Pacific. At the Pac-12 Championships she finished 20th in the 100 freestyle and 17th in the 100 butterfly.

2012-2013
Sims made the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team her second year at Stanford. She finished eighth in the ‘B’ final of the 100 butterfly at the Pac-12 Championships and 18th in the 200 butterfly, helping the Cardinal win their third conference title in the last four years.

2013-2014
In her junior season Sims swam a career best time in the 200 butterfly at the Pac-12 meet. She finished 19th in the 100 butterfly and 18th in the 200. She was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team again.

2014-2015
Sims is currently in her senior season as a Stanford Cardinal. At the Pac-12 Championships Sims finished 32nd in the 50 freestyle, 19th in the 100 butterfly and 19th in the 200 butterfly.

National Competition
Sims was a four-year Illinois state championship qualifier, and named the state’s Swimmer of the Year during her senior season. She was a 15-time prep All-American, and she competed at the Irish Long Course National Championships in Dublin as a member of USA Swimming’s National Junior Team.

She qualified for and competed in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials.
