Jack Mangan

Jack Mangan
Jack Mangan is a backstroke and freestyle swimmer originally from Illinois. He grew up in the city of Winnetka and graduated from New Trier High School as a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. Born June 28, 1995 to George and Julie Mangan, he is a sophomore at the University of Michigan, where he’s an NCAA All-American and Big Ten Champion. Like many of his teammates, Mangan is enrolled in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts. Mangan competed for the New Trier Swim Club for eight years before joining Mike Bottom’s Wolverine squad. A strong 200 backstroker, Mangan’s verbal commitment gave life to Michigan in an event they really needed. In the summer prior to his commitment to Michigan, Mangan made huge improvements in the long course season. In a time trial he dropped six seconds in the 200m backstroke at the Olympic Trials – where Head Coach Mike Bottom first spotted Mangan – and in the prior short course season he dropped a still, massive, four seconds 200 backstroke. According to collegeswimming.com’s rankings Mangan was among the top 50 recruits in the class of 2013, and aside from his backstroke talent, he’s also a fantastic freestyle swimmer. He’s a National High School Record Holder, and graduated from New Trier winning four relay championships and three consecutive team titles.
