Katherine Plevka
Katherine, or as her teammates call her Plev, was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. She grew up swimming before joining her high school team Weddington High School. For her high school team, Plev placed second in the North Carolina State Meet as a junior, and went on to win both the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke her senior year. She then decided to stay in the state of North Carolina to attend Duke University where she can always be found with a smile on her face and always heard cheering for her teammates.
Club
Growing up, Katherine swam for SwimMac of the Caronlinas under Russ Kasl, Jeremy Knowles, Alan Pfau, Larry Hough and Patty Waldron where she qualified for Junior Nationals.
College
2011-2012
Plev’s freshman year at Duke she competed in the 200 IM, 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke at the ACC Championship meet, scoring for Duke in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
2012-2013
Her sophomore year at Duke, Plevka had life time bests in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. She competed in both events, along with the 200 IM, at the ACC Championship meet, scoring in both the 100 and 200 breast.
2013-2014
The summer before he junior year and then again during the school year, Katherine underwent surgery on both her wrists. Although she did not compete, she was still around to cheer on her teammates and was back training once she was cleared.
Personal
Katherine will be receiving her degree in Psychology with a minor in Women’s Studies this May. She hopes to do research at Duke after graduation, before applying to psychology grad schools. One day Katherine hopes to work in higher education on leadership development and mentorship programs.
