Kip Darmody
Kip Darmody Jr. was born Feb. 16, 1993 in Charlotte, N.C. to parents, Kevin and Karen Darmody. Kip has three siblings including Kyle, a sophomore swimmer at rival, the University of Auburn. Darmody has an extensive swimming resume, including NCAA Champion, All-American, USA Swimming National Team Member, Big 12 Champion, and not-to-mention, is an avid Los Angeles Lakers fan.
University of Texas
2011-2012
Darmody stepped up to the plate his freshman year finishing seventh in the 100 backstroke (46.41) and 13th in the backstroke (1:43.09). He also swam the third leg on the 800 freestyle relay that won the national championship earning him All-America honors.
2012-2013
In his sophomore season Darmody qualified for the NCAA Championships again, and this time he finished sixth in the 200 backstroke and 12th in the 100 backstroke. At the Big 12 Championships he placed second in the 200 backstroke, but also won the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly preliminaries.
2013-2014
At the 2014 NCAA Championships Darmody made the ‘A’ final in both backstroke events this time, placing third in the 100 and sixth in the 200. He was on the 800 freestyle relay that finished fifth, the second-place 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays, as well as the 400 medley relay that came in third.
2014-2015
Darmody is currently is in his senior year as a Longhorn.
International Competition
Before attending the University of Texas Darmody competed at the 2010 Junior Pan Pacific Championships as a member of USA Swimming’s National Junior Team. Darmody brought home a gold in the 400m medley relay and both freestyle relays as well as an individual silver medal in the 100m backstroke.
At the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials Darmody placed 11th in the 100m backstroke making it to the semi-final, 30th in the 100m freestyle, 43rd in the 200m backstroke, and 61st in the 100m butterfly.
