Lindsey Fano

Background

Lindsey started swimming on a summer club at the age of 6. Despite numerous attempts to persuade her to join a club team, she continued with the same summer league team for 13 years. Until high school, swimming was a small part of her life and she did it mainly as a social activity. However, through the high school program, swimming became increasingly important so much so that she pursued it at the collegiate level. She now is in her third season at John Carroll University and is a co-captain of the team.

High School

The Fairview High School swim program, run by head coach Bob Smartt, allowed Lindsey to gain more swim experience. The all-girls team competed in the Colorado High School Activities Association 5A division where they placed in the top 3 in the state meet for all of Lindsey’s high school career. During her four years on the team, Lindsey achieved state qualifying times in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard IM and 200-yard freestyle.

College

2012-2013:During her first year as a John Carroll Blue Streak, Lindsey placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 200-yard IM at the Ohio Athletic Conference meet. She was also a part of the runner-up 400-yard medley relay. Overall, John Carroll placed third at the conference meet.

2013-2014: Sophomore year began with a coaching change as new head coach Mark Fino began his career at John Carroll. By the end of the season, Lindsey won both the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM at the OAC meet. Her time in the breaststroke was good for an NCAA “B” cut and set a new school record. She also set a school record in the 200-yard breaststroke and received an honorable mention as a CSCAA all-american scholar.

2014-2015: As a junior, Lindsey continued to find success in breaststroke events. She placed first in the 100 at the mid-season Transylvania Invite and then again at the conference meet. At OACs, she again achieved the NCAA “B” cut in the 100-yard breaststroke and set a new meet and school record. Lindsey got second in the 200-yard breaststroke and was a part of the winning 400-yard medley relay.
