Liu Xiang is a competitive swimmer who represents China internationally.
International Competition
2015 World Championships
In Kazan, Liu won her first international medal, securing a bronze medal in the 50 back (27.58). She also competed in the 50 free, where she qualified for the semi finals and finished 11th overall (24.78).
2016 Olympic Games
In Rio, Liu again swam the 50 free, where she finished 18th (24.91) in prelims in a 3-way tie with Egyptian Farida Osman and Canadian Michelle Williams.
2017 World Championships
For the 2nd year in a row, Liu again competed in only the 50 free at a major international meet. She made the final heat in Budapest, swimming to another 3-way tie, this time for 6th place in a time of 24.58 with Australian Bronte Campbell and Anna Santamans of France.
2018 Asian Games
At the 2018 Asian Games, Liu picked back up her 2-event schedule, this time winning medals in both. She first shocked the world by becoming the first woman to ever dip under the 27-second barrier in the 50 back, touching in 26.98 for a new world record. She followed that up with a silver medal performance in the 50 free (24.60), only .02 off her lifetime best from the previous year.
