Long Gutierrez
Long Gutierrez is a sophomore freestyle and butterflier at the University of California, Berkeley. Born Feb. 23, 1995 in Mexico City to parents, Alejandro and Haiying, Gutierrez has represented Mexico in international competitions including the 2013 World Championships. Although born in Mexico, Gutierrez moved to the U.S. at the age of two and has dual citizenship. He came to Cal from Cottonwood, Utah where he attended Brighton High School. He’s excelled in both USA Swimming and Mexico; he holds 10 Mexican age group records and holds the second fastest time in American history in the 13-14 boys’ 100 butterfly. The High School All-American came into Cal with a 3.8 GPA, and is majoring in Integrative Biology, but is also interested in Bioengineering.

2013-2014
In his freshman season Gutierrez finished 3rd in the 200 butterfly at the 2014 Pac 12 Championships as well as ninth in the 500 freestyle. He also competed at the NCAA Championships, finished 11th in the 200 butterfly, 39th in the 500 freestyle, 23rd in the 200 freestyle, and was also a member of the sixth place 800 freestyle relay, earning him the title of All-American. Cal won the national title.

2014-2015
Gutierrez is in his sophomore year at Cal.

International Competition
Gutierrez competed at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona where he competed in the 200m freestyle. He also holds 10 México national age group records.

He was also a U.S. Olympics Trials Qualifier in 2012, and holds 50 individual Utah swimming records including three high school records, 28 short course records and 19 long course records.
