Michael McBroom is the current American record holder and a World Championship Silver medalist in the 800 meter freestyle. He also set the NCAA record in the 1000 freestyle as a swimmer for the Texas Longhorns.
McBroom graduated from The Woodlands High School in 2009 and the University of Texas in 2013. While at Texas, he set the NCAA record in the 1000 freestyle at 8:43.48 and was a 5-time NCAA All-American. He finished fourth in the 1650 freestyle at the NCAA Championships as a freshman, before winning the event at NCAA’s as a sophomore. He also finished 8th in the 500 freestyle that year. As a junior, he was seventh in the 500 freestyle and 8th in the 1650 freestyle, and as a senior, he finished second in both the 1650 and the 500 freestyle.
2012
At the 2012 Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, McBroom finished 7th in the 1500 freestyle and 8th in the 400 meter freestyle.
2013
At the 2013 World Championship Trials in Indianapolis, he qualified for the World Championship team in the 1500 freestyle and the 800 freestyle. In Barcelona, at the World Championships, he won a silver medal in the 800 freestyle and finished fifth in the 1500 freestyle.
That year he also competed for Team USA at the Duel in the Pool against the European All Stars. He won the 800 freestyle and finished fourth in the 400 freestyle.
2014
At the summer national championships in Irvine, CA, McBroom had two first place finishes in the 400 and 800 freestyles and finished second in the 1500 freestyle. His performance at nationals earned him a spot on the Pan Pacific championship team.
At the Pan Pacific Championships in Gold Coast, Australia, he finished fifth in both the 800 and 1500 freestyles and was fourth in the 400 freestyle. His swims at both nationals and Pan Pacs earned him a spot on the 2015 World Championship Team.

2015 World Championships
In Kazan McBroom was back in action in the 800 and 1,500 meter freestyle. In the longer distance he finished 6th in 15:06.81. In the 800 meter freestyle he finished 8th in 7:55.30.
