Morgan Dickie

Morgan Dickie’s services to her team, college and community have provided her with valuable leadership skills. Dickie balances her time as a swimmer on the UNC Asheville Women’s Swim Team and her community outreach with grace.

Background

Dickie grew up in Centennial Colorado with her parents, younger sister and numerous pets. She first made a splash in the water at age three and joined the Foxridge Foxes summer rec swim team when she was five years old. Dickie joined the Colorado Athletic Club Swim Team when she was eight years old and showed early signs of a strong distance swimmer. She was the first of her age group to swim the 500 freestyle nine years old.

Swimming for Arapahoe High School, Dickie’s commitment to the sport was noticed by her teammates and coaches. She received the Most Improved award her sophomore year and Most Dedicated award her junior year. She was a four-year varsity letter swimmer and a three-year State Championship qualifier. Her senior year, the AHS swim team her won League Championships, beating their rival who had won the meet for 38 years straight. Dickie was a member of the National Team for the CAC and qualified for Colorado Sectionals her junior and senior years of high school.

Freshman Year
Dickie began her freshman year as a Bulldog in the Honors Program at UNC Asheville. She trained distance events at the start of the season and was seeing improvement in her training and racing. Unfortunately, a shoulder injury kept Dickie out of the water until a few weeks before the 2014 Coastal Collegiate Conference Championships. She was able to swim the 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle; despite being out of the water all season. She finished the season with CCSA All-Academic Honors. While out of the water, she began volunteering with Brother Wolf, a no-kill animal shelter.

Sophomore Year

After her enjoying her experience volunteering with Brother Wolf, Dickie started working with a few other organizations her sophomore year at Asheville. She became a member of Young Life, a leader of Wyld Life and began attending College Life meetings. She continued her service to Brother Wolf and maintained her standing in the Honors Program. Dickie began the season with strong racing and training. Unfortunately, another injury plagued Dickie. She spent another season out of the water to recover from surgery to repair a broken patella after a hiking accident. She managed to begin training a month before the 2015 CCSA Championships. Dickie surprised herself, her teammates and her coaches by swimming a life time best time in the 100 freestyle after only a month of training following her knee injury. She would finish the season with CCSA All-Academic Honors for a second year.
