Peter Brumm

Peter Brumm
Peter Brumm is a butterfly specialist at the University of Michigan. Brumm is originally from Cornelius, N.C., where he swam for SwimMAC Carolina and graduated from William A. Hough High School. Born Jan. 24, 1994 Brumm was a back-to-back state champion in the 100 butterfly, and two-time MVP. He was a member of the U.S. National Junior Team, but he also is a national record holder in the 400 freestyle relay, 200 freestyle relay and the 400m freestyle relay. Brumm is an excellent writer – he’s currently a student in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts and was a National Art and Writing Gold and Silver Key recipient in high school. Brumm was collegeswimming.com’s 38th-ranked recruit in the class of 2012, and one of the top in the state of North Carolina. Brumm’s commitment added to a Michigan class full of top butterfliers including Dylan Bosch. Although he was primarily recruited to swim butterfly, Brumm’s times were competitive in the freestyle events as well. He wasn’t on a national-contending relay his freshman year, but by his sophomore season Brumm was swimming on four relays at the NCAA meet.

Michigan
2012-2013
As a freshman Brumm immediately qualified for the NCAA Championships – he earned Honorable Mention All-America honors after touching 15th in the 200 butterfly. Brumm also finished 20th in the 200 freestyle and 29th in the 200 IM. At the Big Ten Championships he finished in the top eight in all of his individual events.

2013-2014
Brumm added multiple honors to his All-America status during his sophomore season. At the NCAA Championships Brumm swam on four relays – finishing top eight in the 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay and top 16 in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay. He also came in 15th in the 100 butterfly.

2014-2015
Brumm is currently in his junior year as a Michigan Wolverine. He qualified for the NCAA Championships, finishing 33rd in the 100 butterfly and he swapped the 100 freestyle, placing 49th, in place of the 200 butterfly.

International Competition
Brumm was a member of the 2012-2013 U.S. National Junior Team. He competed at the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, bringing home three medals – a bronze in the 200m freestyle, a gold in the 400m freestyle, and a silver in the 800m freestyle relay. He also qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, finishing 57th in the 200m freestyle.
