Ryan Bachur

Ryan is senior majoring in Economics and History. He is this season’s Mule Co-Captain and is every bit a leader in the Franklin D. Roosevelt mold. Always stoic and focused, Ryan is the engine behind Colby’s recent success. Living excellence, Ryan is also an All-NESCAC Academic Team honoree and is regularly on the Dean’s List. The general consensus around the Mules is the he might be the closest real resemblance to Marvel’s Captain America.

2011-2012

Despite coming into college as at a 1:57 in the 200 freestyle, Ryan quickly dropped time as a freshman. He finished the year at 1:47.92 in the 200 free and scored 23rd in the 200 freestyle at NESCAC Championships. His quick improvement is a testament to his hard work.

2012-2013

Ryan’s improvement continued in his sophomore season. His times kept dropping and he became a vital member of the Mule’s “A” relays. His 200 free again descended to a 1:45.90 while his 100 split broke the daunting :49 barrier at a :48.57. At NESCAC Championships, he made finals and placed 21st in the 200 free and was a member of the Mule 400 free relay that made the podium with a 6th place on the final night of competition.

2013-2014

In his Junior season, Ryan shifted his focus from the distance events to sprint events. The change came with great success as he continued his 3-year streak on improvement, again dropping his 200 free time to a 1:45.33. At NESCAC Championships, he was a key member of the Mule’s top relays and was a member of the 400 free relay that broke a school record that had stood since 1998 and also podium at 8th place.

2014-2015

Ryan’s final season with the Aquamules was nothing short of a storybook ending. He had an amazing dual meet schedule highlighted by wins in the 200 free against Trinity College and the 100 free against Wesleyan University. At NESCAC Championships, he swam lifetime bests in his three individual events, the 50, 100 and 200 free. In the 200, he made finals and scored in the top 24. He was the anchor for the Mules’ record breaking 200 free relay to open the meet and ended his career as the anchor for the record breaking breaking 400 free relay.

Personal

Ryan is an avid baseball card collector and religious watcher of the television show “The West Wing” even though the show went off the air years ago. His proudest moment in his life so far is anchoring the above-mentioned 400 free relay in 2014 and breaking the school record. He hopes to leave Colby and immediately join the world of high finance and commerce. He won’t rest until he reaches a Warren Buffett-like level of success.
