Tyler Toren

Tyler Toren, better known by all his teammates as TT, was born and raised in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania.  He swam casually throughout his childhood, playing other sports as well.  During high school, he swam and played both water polo and volleyball at Wilson High School.  He helped his teams to three state titles during his time at Wilson, one in swimming and two in water polo before heading to Duke.  At Duke, TT has been incredibly passionate about getting involved in various aspects of the athletic community.  He is a chairman of the ACC division of the Student Athlete Advisory Council, where he works with the ACC and NCAA on athletic regulations and community service projects.  Tyler is also the vice president of the Duke Recreational and Physical Education Leadership Council where he works to promote club sporting events, and provide proper equipment for these teams.  Along with being involved with Duke Athletics, TT is incredibly plays a big role on the swim team as he plans all their service events, and is someone who comes into practice each day with an incredible work ethic.

Club

Tyler has had a very interesting swimming career, in that he never swam club before coming to Duke.  He swam for his high school team and played water polo, but was never a part of a club team before becoming a year around swimmer at Duke.

College

2011-2012

As a freshman Tyler posted life time bests in many of his events including the 100 and 200 freestyle, and the 200 and 400 IM.

2012-2013

During his sophomore year, Tyler continued his career specializing in backstroke and IM.  He made the ACC finals in his 200 back and 400 IM, while swimming best times in those events along with a best time in the 200 IM.

2013-2014

TT’s junior year, he returned to the ACC championship posting best times in all three of his events: the 200 and 400 IM and the 200 backstroke.  With his best time in the 400 IM, TT moved up the ranks to place himself as the third fastest 400 IM swimmer in Duke’s history.

Personal

TT will be receiving his degree this Spring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Evolutionary Anthropology.  He is still unsure what he will be doing after graduation, but has hopes of doing something in a field related to his degree.
