Background
Viktoriya Zeynep Gunes was born in Poltava, Ukraine on June 19, 1998 as Viktoriya Solnceva , As a swimmer she represented the Ukraine until 2014 and then became a Turkish Citizen, changing her name to Viktoria Zeynep Gunes. She has represented Turkey since 2014.
Early Success
In 2013 at the Fina World Junior Swimming Championships, Viktoriya, competing for the Ukraine, won Gold in the 200m breaststroke, silver in the 50m breaststroke, and bronze in the 100m breaststroke.
The same year, at the European Junior Championships, Ukraine National, Viktoriya, won gold in both the 200m and 50m breaststroker, and silver in the 100m breaststroke.
National/International Competition
At the 2015 World Championships held in Kazan, Viktoriya, competing against the best in the world, did not reach the finals in her event.
At the 2015 Fina World Junior Championships, Viktoriya won 4 gold medals for her adopted country, Turkey. She won all three breaststroke events, 50m, 100m, and 200m, and she won gold in the 200m medley. The same year, at the European Championships (swam short course meters), Viktoriya won bronze in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke. During this meet, Viktoria Zeynep Gunes set a new national record in the women’s 200m breast stroke at the last session of the 2015 European Short Course Championships. Gunes touched the pads 3rd (2:19.73) in the final of the 200m breast, beating her own record from her morning swim, 2:21.01.
