Blair, Metzler Highlight America East Weekly Awards

BOSTON – A few of the #AESD programs wrapped up their regular season competition last weekend. The other half will have meets prior to the 2020 America East Swimming and Diving Championship, which will be held again at WPI in Worcester, Mass from February 13-16. Here are the weekly awards:

Female Swimmer of the Week
Anna Metzler, New Hampshire – So., IM/Free, Regensburg, Germany

  • Won four individual events over two meets; in the 142-88 win at Stony Brook she won the 1000 free (10:22.94) and the 200 back (2:05.31).
  • In 193-107 win against Binghamton, Metzler set the pool record in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.04 and in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.34.
  • This is Metzler’s forth #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season.

Male Swimmer of the Week
Liam Blair, Maine – Jr., Backstroke, Tucson, Arizona.

  • Captured three individual titles, 50 yard backstroke (24.61), 100 yard backstroke (53.85) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:00.36).
  • Also was a member of the winning 200 yard freestyle relay team with a time of 1:28.11.
  • This is Blairs’s first #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season.

Female Diver of the Week
Amanda McGraw, Binghamton – So., Diving, Warwick, N.Y.

  • Took first in the 1-meter event with a score of 262.80.
  • Placed second in the 3-meter event with a score of 265.00.
  • This is McGraw’s first #AESD Diver of the Week award this season.

Male Diver of the Week
Ben Parker, UMBC – Sr., Diver, Lawrenceville, Ga.

  • Took second in the 3-meter event with a score of 273.53.
  • Placed third in the 1-meter event with a score of 249.75.
  • This is Parker’s third #AESD Diver of the Week award this season.

For the life of me, I can’t understand how they pick these honors in the America East. They are meaningless at this point.
