Women’s 200 Meter Freestyle

In SCY prelims this morning, Bella Sims of Sandpipers cracked through the 1:45 barrier for first time, swimming a field-leading 1:44.21 and jumping from #20 to #9 in the all-time rankings for 15-16 girls. She scratched the final, however. Gabby DeLoof, seeded third after prelims behind Sims and Erica Sullivan, won the LCM final in 1:59.81, the only sub-2:00 swim of the night.

Men’s 200 Meter Freestyle

Blake Pieroni cruised to a 1:49.95 win in the men’s 200 free. It was his third-fastest time of the season; he swam a pair of 1:48s in March. 16-year-old Rex Maurer, whose older brother Luke Maurer is swimming in Mission Viejo this weekend, took 1.8 seconds off his previous PB to place second with 1:52.60. Maurer dropped 2.1 seconds in SCY prelims, too, to log a personal-best 1:36.45 for the top qualifying time of the morning. Carmel’s Griffin Hadley came in third with 1:53.51.

Women’s 100 Meter Breaststroke

Emma Weber of Denver Hilltoppers, already a Wave 2 Meet qualifier for Olympic Trials, lowered her PB by .8 to win the women’s 100 breast in 1:08.04.

Weber’s teammate Chase Davison and Gracie Weyant of Sarasota Sharks both earned their first Wave 1 entries in the event with sub-1:11 performances for second and third place. Davison’s previous best was 1:11.03; Weyant’s was 1:11.21.

Men’s 100 Meter Breaststroke

Cody Miller dominated the field in both prelims and finals of the men’s 100 breast. He swam 1:00.66, largely unchallenged, to log his third-fastest time of the season. He was 59.65 at U.S. Open Indy.

18-year-old Matthew Segal of Club Wolverine punch his first ticket to Omaha (Wave 1) with a second-place finish of 1:02.87. His previous PB was 1:03.41 from 2020 U.S. Open Indy. Dynamo’s Arie Voloschin, who notched a Wave 1 time of 1:02.62 in March, came in third with 1:04.29, .20 ahead of Sebastian Wolff of Hilltoppers (1:04.49).

Women’s 100 Meter Butterfly

  • Trials Wave I: 1:00.69

  1. Lucy Bell, FAST – 1:00.57
  2. Bella Sims, SAND – 1:00.59
  3. Avery Bargeron, DYNA – 1:01.33

Lucy Bell of Fort Collins Area Swim Team edged Bella Sims twice in the 100 fly; once in SCY prelims (53.17 to 53.24) and once in LCM finals (1:00.57 to 1:00.59). Bell has broken a minute twice – at 2019 U.S. Open and 2019 Summer Juniors. Tonight’s 1:00.57 was her 6th-fastest performance ever. Sims, on the other hand, dropped .60 in the final from her previous lifetime best of 1:01.19 and added another qualifying event for Olympic Trials. The 15-year-old has Wave 1 standards in the 100 free, 200 fly, and 200/400 IM and Wave 2 cuts in the 200/400/800/1500 free.

Dynamo’s Avery Bargeron, who qualified for Wave 1 in March with 1:00.61, came in third with 1:01.33.

Men’s 100 Meter Butterfly

  1. Blake Pieroni, SAND – 54.71
  2. Bowe Becker, SAND – 55.30
  3. Hunter Foehner, TOPS – 55.69

Blake Pieroni won the 100 fly with his best time of the season, 54.71. Runner-up Bowe Becker also cleared his previous season best (55.73), touching in 55.30. Becker was first to the wall among a pack of five swimmers who all clocked 55-mids: Hunter Foehner of Hilltoppers (55.69), Ilya Kharun of Sandpipers (55.71), Loren Gillilan of Fort Collins (55.81), and Carmel’s Griffin Hadley (55.87).

Women’s 400 Meter Individual Medley

  • Trials Wave II: 4:47.72
  • Trials Wave I: 4:51.79

Top 3:

  1. Emma Weyant, SYS – 4:39.38
  2. Katie Grimes, SAND – 4:41.39
  3. Summer Smith, Bluefish – 4:45.78

Emma Weyant won the 400 IM by two body lengths, going 4:39.38 to log her third-best time. 15-year-old Katie Grimes took another 1.1 seconds of a month-old PB to finish second in 4:41.39. That moves her from 14th to 13th on the all-time list for 15-16 girls. Bluefish’s Summer Smith swam within .4 of her two-week-old PB, going 4:45.78.

Paige Kuwata dropped 6.7 seconds to earn her first Olympic Trials qualification in the event. Kuwata blew right through the Wave 1 standard and qualified directly for Wave II with 4:46.63. Her previous PB of 4:53.31 was from 2019 NCSA Summer Championship.

Men’s 400 Meter Individual Medley

  • Trials Wave I: 4:25.99

  1. Josh Parent, ABF – 4:24.56
  2. Alexander Gusev, SYS – 4:27.76
  3. Connor Hunt, SYS – 4:32.54

16-year-old Josh Parent of Bluefish won the men’s 400 IM in 4:24.56. He has been as fast as 4:23.89 this season. Sarasota Sharks went 2-3-4 with Alexander Gusev (4:27.76), Connor Hunt (4:32.34), and Liam Custer (4:35.33).
