The Boise High School girls and boys swimming teams have swept the Idaho 5A High School State Championships (IDHSAA) for the 3rd year in a row.
GIRLS MEET
The Boise High girls utilized their depth to rack up 235.50 points for the win over 2nd place Skyview High School. This makes for a 7th-straight Idaho state championship for the Boise High School girls, though only the last 3 have been under the jurisdiction of the IDHSAA. Boise only won 1 of the 3 relays on offer, as compared to Skyview that won 2. Boise’s relay victory came in a new State Meet Record of 3:39.07 in the final.
Skyview broke the year-old record in the 200 medley relay, winning in 1:49.39 that was 4-and-a-half seconds clear of the field. They won again in another State Meet Record in the 200 free relay, finishing in 1:40.17. But, the difference in depth was on display in that meet-closing 400 free relay: Skyview didn’t enter a team as Boise cruised to victory.
The Boise Braves received a boost in their title defense this season in large part thanks to freshman Kayla Wieckowski, who won the girls’ 500 free in 5:05.68 – an 8-second gap on runer-up Caroline Ruck. Wieckowski has been as fast as 5:01Boise High scored huge points in that race with 4 of the top 7 finishers. That event turned the meet into a runaway in favor of Boise.
In her other individual event, Wieckowski placed 2nd in the 200 free, behind Skyview’s Gabrielle Adams. But again, in spite of Skyview winning the race, Boise’s depth showed up with 2 swimmers in the top 5 and 4 scorers altogether in that 200 free – Skyview only had 1.
The only 2 girls’ double individual winners of the meet were Molly Jacobson of Rocky Mountain and Ruby Howell of Borah High. Jacobson won the 100 backstroke (58.29) and 100 butterfly (58.36) while Howell clocked a 52.18 100 freestyle and 2:04.17 200 IM. That 200 IM time was good enough for a new 5A State Meet record by almost 3 seconds, breaking the old IDHSAA record of 2:07.05 set by Amelia Buyers last season.
Howell is a senior and a UNLV commit.
Other Event Winners
- Anna Tindall of Skyview won the 50 free in a time of 25.07. She was also on both of the winning Skyview relays.
- Sophomore Jillian Moses of Timberline High School earned a win in the 100 breaststroke with a new 5A State Meet record of 1:05.85, downing her own record of 1:07.38 that she set last year. Her time at this meet is also a new personal best by over a second.

BOYS MEET
The Boise High School boys team won 5 events during the 5A State Meet en route to their 5th-straight Idaho state title (3rd straight under the jurisdiction of the IDHSAA).
Junior Nathan Quarterman won 2 more individual state titles and was a member of the boys’ winning 400 free relay, which brings his total state titles count up to 6 in the last 3 seasons.
Quarterman earned first place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:41.69) and 100 backstroke (49.05). In both events, he broke his own 5A State Meet records he set at last years meet.
Boise’s first win came in the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 1:38.48, which is a new 5A State Meet record, clearing the mark that was set by Boise in 2018. Quarterman was on that relay in prelims, but only swam 1 relay in finals, according to Meet Mobile.
Boise’s Tim Wong and Zach Stevens went 1-2 in the 200 IM in times of 2:00.73 and 2:07.77, respectively. The team’s relays also broke their own 200 medley and 400 freestyle state meet records that were both set in 2018 with times of 1:38.48 and 3:17.62, respectively.
Other individual double winners of the boys’ meet were Paul Shutt of Capital High and Josh Sutton of Centennial High. Shutt won the 100 freestyle (46.51) breaking his old 5A State Meet record of 47.68 set last year and the 100 breaststroke (1:00.44), also breaking a 2018 meet record. Sutton clocked a 51.32 in the 100 butterfly, and in the 50 free he set a new state meet record with a 21.41 – breaing the old record of 22.97 shared by Luke Heikka and Jack Severson. The top 6 swimmers in the 50 free final, including Severson, were all under the old record.
