Boise State Cruised to a victory over Rival Idaho

The Boise State women’s swimming and diving team cruised to a victory over its in-state rival Idaho, 217.5 to 82.5 on Saturday. Freshmen Brittany Aoyama and Felicity Cann made their mark in their Bronco debuts, shattering many season opener records.

Aoyama set season opener records in the 50-freestyle (23.36) and the 100-butterfly (54.95) on Saturday. Stephanie North previously held the season opener record in the 50 free, and Amber Boucher held the record in the 100 fly. Boucher’s record in the season opener was 56.33 until Saturday.

Cann set the season opener record in the 200-freestyle, touching in at 1:50.25. The mark was also good for the pool record, previously set by Amber Boucher in 2012.

Junior Heather Harper won the 100 and 200-breaststroke, clocking in at 1:05.50 and 2:22.51.

Divers Ciera Courtney and Erin Kohlbeck made their marks in the Bronco record books. Courtney set the second-best score in the three meter diving with a 308.93. Kohlbeck made her mark in the top-five with a 296.55. Courtney set the season-opener record last year in the 3 meter with a 256.95, and bettered that mark on Saturday.

The Broncos lead the Vandals 6-2 in the all-time series, and have won six consecutive matchups against the in-state rival. Boise State heads to Fresno, Calif. on Oct. 11 for the Fresno Invitational.
