Bonnies Swim Tough at Western New York Invitational

Men:

Morning Results Afternoon Results 

The St. Bonaventure men’s swimming and diving team performed well Saturday at the Western New York Invitational hosted by the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Michael Pilyugin and Michael White led St. Bonaventure, combining for five wins. Pilyugin won three events for the Bonnies with wins in the 200-yd freestyle (1:44.11), 100-yd freestyle (47.38) and 100-yd backstroke (54.44).

White was victorious in the 500-yd freestyle (4:44.52) and 400-yd IM (4:01.49). Preston Schilling also added a pair of win for the Bonnies. The junior won the 100-yd breastroke (59.89), and the 200-yd breastroke (2:11.69)

Other event winners for St. Bonaventure were Gregg Byrne in the 200-yd backstroke (1:58.92).

Head coach Sean McNamee was pleased to get his team meet action. “It’s good to get back to live racing,” McNamee said. “There is no substiture to competing against others.”

Next Up: 

St. Bonaventure will travel to Colgate for a dual meet Oct. 17th. The meet is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.

Women:

Morning Results Afternoon Results

The St. Bonaventure women’s swimming team saw its first meet action Saturday at the Western New York Invitational hosted by the State University of New York at Buffalo.

St. Bonaventure was led by junior Tanja kirmse. The Burghausen, Germany product took home the 500-yd freestyle title with a time of 5:14.13.

Devon McFadden turned in an impressive swim in the 200-yd IM. The sophomore turned in a time of 2:14.07.

Other highlights swims for St. Bonaventure came in the 200-yd butterfly. Liz Malone took home the top spot with a time of 2:10.49. The other event win for the Bonnies came cutesy of Maggie Woods. The junior took home the top spot in the 200-yd freestyle (2:00.28)

Head coach Krista Carlson was pleased with her team’s performance.

“The Western New York Invitational was a great meet for us to gauge where we are at with out training,” the second year coach said. “We saw a lot of impressive and tough swims, and our freshman as a whole really stepped up and weren’t afraid to race”

Next Up:

The Bonnies will make the trip to Youngstown Ohio Friday, Oct. 9 for a dual meet with the penguins. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm.
